Gorillas vs Guerrillas

by Larry Hehn on May 3, 2011

Some conversations on Twitter can be downright inspirational. Like this gem from early Saturday afternoon between fellow bloggers Michael Perkins, Moe Vivas and me:

@MichaelDPerkins: “Zoo bound today. Hopefully no one mistakes me for a guerrilla & tries to take my picture”

@Moe_NYC: “if some1 mistakes you for a guerilla, they’ll think they are in Cuba… or Colombia.  🙂 Have fun Michael.”

@MichaelDPerkins: “ha! Autocorrect.”

@Moe_NYC: “I figured that. Enjoy yourself. :)”

@LarryHehn: “Ok, all of this gorilla/guerrilla talk has given me an inspiration for Tuesday’s cartoon. Thanks!”

@Moe_NYC: “Ooh, I can’t wait to see Michael cartoonified. :)”

@LarryHehn: “I’m not very good at caricatures, but I’ll try!”

@yodaism: “Do or do not. There is no try.”

Gee thanks, Yoda. I bet you send that reply to anyone who has the word “try” in one of their tweets. (I think he really does. Try it for yourself and see.)

Seriously. Folks, you just can’t make up this kind of stuff.

So I set to work on a cartoon that would capture the humor of gorillas vs guerrillas, and also “cartoonify” Michael Perkins.

It was no easy task, but I’m pretty happy with the result. Let me know what you think…

gorillas

Without warning, Michael was kidnapped by leftist gorillas.

The Real Michael Perkins

The Real Michael Perkins

Do you think there’s any resemblance?

Michael, thanks for being such a good sport. I hope you were able to wash the turkey vulture poo stains out of your shirt.

What is your favorite animal to visit at the zoo?

LOL, Larry this is awesome. That’s one of the things I like about M-Perk …. knows how to turn a laughable situation and learn from it. 🙂

Favorite animal? Probably the bears. Always like the bears.

I like that M-Perk. Sounds like a really hip brand of coffee.
Bears are cool. I especially like to watch the polar bears swim.

Great job! Except you forgot the turkey vulture poop on his arm. 🙂

My favorite animal is the llama. Just because I can yell, “Tina come get your food!”

Whenever I see a llama I can’t help but think of The Emperor’s New Groove. Then I start speaking squirrel.

Oh I forgot my favorite animal. Call me weird, but I like the koi. I know they are just giant goldfish that they throw in random places, but I love to feed them.

Koi are pretty cool. A friend of mine from grade school lives in a very small town (like about 12 houses). One of his neighbors had a pond full of koi in his back yard. Until a couple of cranes swooped in and ate them all. Oops!

Nice!

If only he had been sporting his legendary beard…the guerilla gorillas may have thunk him to be one of their own! Especially with the plaid shorts going on.

Ha! That is great! I think your Michael does resemble the real Michael, too.

When I go to the zoo, I like to watch the monkeys. I had the opportunity to visit the Melbourne Zoo (Melbourne, Australia) almost two years ago when I was there. They have a butterfly area where you can go in and walk among all the butterflies (very warm and humid in there). I loved going in there and took lots of photos – wish more of them had turned out better though. That was nice to see all the different varieties of butterflies.

That would be amazing to see. We have a small butterfly conservatory near where I live. I imagine the Melbourne one must be spectacular! Thanks, Shelley!

This is awesome. Perk in the park, held by hostile primates.

I’d be a leftist gorilla, too. I’m a lefty, at least, and on the political spectrum, I’m just slightly smaller and less hairy than those pictured.

My favorite animal in the zoo to see are probably the big cats – Tigers, Leopards, Lions. Always wanted my heavenly home to be populated like a big game preserve

That made me laugh, good one. I haven’t been to a zoo in like 14 years so I couldn’t say what my favorite is, but when I go to the sea life center I like to watch the sea lions swim from an underwater window. One time a massive bull swam straight at the window full charge, then manuevered at last minute. I actually jumped out of the way.

Reply

Larry Hehn May 3, 2011 at 10:11 pm

Ooh yeah, those underwater windows are the coolest. My wife and I went to the Vancouver Aquarium last year. I could have watched the sea otters through the underwater window for hours!
