Mom said that it broke last night because of all the Veggietales we watched yesterday.

Sounds like you might be speaking from experience, Jason.
We’ve seen a lot of Veggie Tales too!
Great caption!

Hi Larry,

I have a craft question: when you draw a cartoon, do you think of a caption first or the image first? In other words, would you have a caption for this cartoon in mind before you did you first sketch? Just curious.

My caption: “Now what are we going to do with the kids?”

Ciao,
Leanne

Good question, Leanne.
I’ve often wondered about songwriting that way – do the lyrics come first or the tune?
In my case, I almost always come up with a caption first, then the image follows.
The toon you see here was used to illustrate an article I wrote years ago about going without TV for a month.
I like using toons like this for Name That Toon because you guys come up with captions that are absolutely hilarious and even better than the original!

Thanks, Larry. I love to hear about process. I’m sure it’s interesting to see what can happen to your work when you let go. Happy captioning/writing/drawing.

I don’t know what happened. Yesterday, Daddy watched the game, and today, we have a new desk!

Not really a caption, but this reminds me of the TV we had as kids. I would always change channels with my toes and one day I broke it. Then, the next day I left with a friend for a two week vacation to Florida! So, my brother and sister suffered. (Don’t worry, they deserved it.)

Ah, the good old days when we had to leave the couch to change channels! Maybe I’m just weird (ok, forget the maybe…) but I wouldn’t mind if our TV broke for a couple of weeks. The rest of my family would be pretty upset though…

Praise God! The one-eyed monster is dead! (Little Billy was quite the fundamentalist)
