Name That Toon Debut – Caption this cartoon!

by Larry Hehn on January 7, 2011

Welcome to the debut of Name That Toon!

On Tuesday my friend Tony Alicea added his own personal spin to one of my other cartoons, referring to one of the characters as Baby Frankenstein. Little did Tony realize that his mention of that fictional monster would birth a totally different monster.

As soon as I saw his comment, it hit me: Why not post just the drawings and let everyone come up with their own caption?

And as quick as you can say “awesome”, Name That Toon was born! So with a tip of the hat to Tony, I bring you the first ever Name That Toon!

Be sure to leave a comment with your best caption(s) for the drawing below. If you like this one, you may like my other cartoon with elephants and giraffes in it.  Enjoy!

I can’t believe I was able to get that Giraffe to write captions for me. 😉

Wow, hi Russell. Long time no see! What an honor to have a real live professional comedian leave the first caption. Thanks for getting us off to a great start!

You may have just dated yourself, Bill, but great caption! I found a video on YouTube with four Maypo commercials on it. Here’s the link:

I like “speakingwinds” quote for the toon. When I first saw it I thought “He ought to be happy he’s got such a big family! I’m all alone out here.” – Giraffe.

Yes, I like that one too. Yours is awesome as well, Rachel! I’m impressed with how many really good captions we’re getting. Thanks!

Here is another math trick This will work only with 7 digit Phone No. 1. Grab a catallcuor. (You wont be able to do this in your head)2. Key in the first three digits of your phone number (NOT the area code)3. Mutiply by 804. Add 15. Mutiply by 2506. Add the last four numbers of your phone number7. Add the last four numbers of your phone number again8. Subtract 2509. Divide number by 2 Do you recognize the answer? IS’NT IT YOUR PHONE NO:?

Larry Hehn May 27, 2012 at 9:50 pm

Nope, not even close. My catallcuor must be broken. 🙂

Jeroen,Ik vraag alleen uit welke bron jij de info hebt, dat in principe Jasper al bekend zou hebben.vervolgens krijg ik van jou en bezempje een aantal belachelijke antwoorden die in feite weergeven dat het een gerucht is.

I am an incurable romantic, whenever I am “surprised” at the behaviors of some of the liberals we know.I just keep thinking that logic and common sense are natural occurrences, while apparently there are those among us who were not endowed with those traits!

You should pick the best and then send them a signed copy of the toon.

That’s a cool idea, Jim. I’m not sure whether or not I could handle the pressure of picking from such an amazing collection of captions. I will definitely give that some thought, though, and will keep everyone posted. Yours is great too!

Y’know, David, I can relate to that caption. Being in a crowded, active environment can be exhausting to me. I’m an introverted elephant too. Thanks for adding to the fun!

Greg the Giraffe was used to his morning commutes near the elephant herd, but had grown tired of Eddie the Elephant re-enacting movie scenes at 7 AM. Today’s re-enactment featured the romantic moment from Titanic where Leo stretches out his arms and yells “I’m king of the world!” It’s just much more annoying when an elephant blurts it out.
