Man I’m slow. I had to look at that picture multiple times to figure out what was going on. I kept thinking “her mouth isn’t even open. How is she talking?” I get it now.

True, this one is very subtle, Rob. I’m hoping that most people know who Marlee Matlin is. I’m glad you persisted and caught it!

I thought she was dancing while eating. Nothing wrong with that… I do it all the time. I see now she’s talking in sign language. I wonder, can you “yell” in sign language? Just wondering. :/

Excellent question, Moe. I’m not sure. But my wife and I are starting sign language classes on Monday, so I’ll ask the instructor!

I’ve always wanted to learn sign language.

Right now I only know a few words – coffee, tea, and milk are about all. I can’t wait to learn more!

I learned the alphabet way back when I was little and in Brownies and still know it today…

Subtle and somewhat obscure–right up might alley. Good stuff, man.

The upward or outward thrusting of the hand may indicate intensity, as to raise the voice, this along with the glare in the eyes may indicate that you are being yelled at or scolded.

My wife and I are in a sign language course right now, and I’m fascinated by the language, how it can be used to express complex ideas, and how much facial expression comes into play. I’m looking forward to being able to speak fluently with my Deaf friends!
