My wife and I sponsor some children in other countries.
One of the joys of sponsorship is receiving cards and letters from the children. We find out all about their favorite subjects in school, their hobbies, and their families.
One of our sponsored children (I’ll refer to him here as Juan, though that’s not his real name) is entering the 4th grade. He wants to grow up to be a sailor and visit many countries. He is doing very well in school, and learning a lot about God.
Juan says he wants to meet us because he would like to give us “un abrazo fuerte”, a strong hug.
In one of his recent letters, Juan asked us to “Please pray for my father to change his character.”
His latest letter asked, in rough translation, “Please pray for my father, he takes beer and spends the money he works.”
It just about broke my heart to read that.
Here’s a loving son, asking virtual strangers from thousands of miles away to pray for his father. How could anyone refuse such a heartfelt request?
But I’d like to take it one step further.
I believe in the power of prayer. I believe that things happen when we pray, that wouldn’t happen if we didn’t pray.
And I believe that this is worth praying for.
Please join this prayer. I would love to send Juan a letter telling him that people all over the world are praying for his father and his family.
And I would love to get a letter back telling us of how God is working in his life through those prayers.
Would you pray for his father with us?
Thanks.
