It took me a while to notice what was missing from my desk.
Phone, stapler, pictures, box of Kleenex, fan…yep, those are all where they are supposed to be…
Hey! Somebody took my Marvin the Martian mug!
I took another look around my desk - around, behind, and under everything just to make sure I hadn’t overlooked it.
Nope, my mug is gone.
Who would have taken my mug, and why?
Funny how our mind can take us in so many directions when something like this happens, isn’t it?
I looked around my desk again. Nope, no ransom notes.
Figuring the lunch room was the best place to start, I wandered in and found my Marvin mug, washed and dried, and nestled in the cupboard with all the non-Marvin mugs.
Someone had taken the mug off my desk and washed it for me. How thoughtful!
Yes, I was initially a little concerned about where Marvin went, but the gesture was much appreciated. It was a little thing, but it meant a lot.
I wonder just how many opportunities to do little things for others present themselves during the day, and how many we miss?
Opening a door, offering a smile or a seat, making room in traffic, offering to help carry something for someone with a full load, calling just to let them know you’re thinking about them…heck, even cleaning their mug.
What little thing could you do for someone today?
